The collection of 5-CORNER SCARVES is a tribute to scarf designer Vera Neumann, who took a square scarf and cut an opening from one corner to the center, creating five corners. The simple slit offers the wearer great opportunities to drape and wrap the otherwise square textile piece in a variety of ways, fueled by their imagination. Ms. Neumann's exhibition Vera Paints a Scarf was at the Museum of Art and Design (New York City) August 8-January 26, 2020.
The featherweight silk chiffon BLUE THREADS SCARF illustrates the hand-stitching that creates the resist in the dyeing process of my original shibori textile work. The shadows appear three-dimensional where the fabric is gathered and pulled by the blue threads.
