"Magic happened when I installed this collection of Accordion BonBons and garments in Ossam Gallery. The Accordion BonBons were conceived as wearable’s to be worn as soft sculptural accessories around a person’s neck and shoulders over simple silhouettes like the Doodle Dresses and Dusters. However, the pleated neck wraps transformed into mystical totems as they were juxtaposed, layered and wrapped as art works. Draped on hand-crafted wooden hangers and suspended from the ceiling, each sculpted composition seemed to dance, magnifying its own personality. The collages invite the viewer to imagine how they might wear the work. Or, do they prefer watch their movements as spiritual art objects, twirling in space?"

The exhibition Through Line showcases the work of three distinguished artists— Mary Jaeger, Yoshiaki Komatsu and David Barthold — who have each drawn deep inspiration from Japanese aesthetics and traditional techniques. This exhibition highlights the recipients of the 6th Annual Art Exhibition (AAE) Awards held at the end of last year, sponsored by J-Collabo.
The title Through Line symbolizes a continuous thread connecting the distinct artistic approaches of the three artists, unified by their exploration of Japan’s rich aesthetic sensibilities and craftsmanship. Each artist uniquely reinterprets traditional elements, techniques, and philosophies, creating contemporary visual languages across diverse mediums such as sculpture and textile art.
The exhibition offers profound insights into how traditional Japanese aesthetics and craftsmanship continue to influence modern artistic practices, allowing viewers to engage with both historical significance and contemporary innovation.
