Tiger Ikat Medallion Scarf

The design for this contemporary twist on shibori (resist-dye), ikat (yarns dyed prior to weaving to create the pattern) and suzani (embroidery) was inspired by my travels in Uzbekistan and desire to meld these three ancient textile techniques. In Margilan, the city in eastern Uzbek that is considered the ikat capital, I purchased a six meter length of a hand-woven, cotton ikat fabric in the market. When I returned to my Brooklyn atelier, I overdyed the cotton ikat with my signature Tiger shibori stripes and juxtaposed cutouts from the border of a vintage suzani textile that were the remnants from a quilted coat.

Digitally printed on silk satin, the rectangular scarf has a playful, colorful mood that has a multi-dimensional and blurry magical quality. Its timeless edge inspires conversation.

Style the scarf by simply draping it around your neck, tie it in a bow or wear it as a 60's inspired headscarf or wrap cummerbund-type belt.

Hand wash the fabric to preserve its luxurious sheen and hang to dry. Or machine wash it and put it in the dryer for a casual washer finish.
